Developed by the Wine Scholar Guild with the support of the Italian wine DOC/G consortia, this
comprehensive study & certification program is composed of two units, and covers; viticulture and wine making practices, grape varietals, climate, topography, soils, history and wine law for the wine
regions of Italy.

Prior to the first class, each student receives a copy of the IWS Unit 1 - The Wines of Northern Italy Study Manual. The IWS Unit 1 manual provides the body of information from which the 100 multiple choice questions that make up the final exam are derived. |
In addition to the manual, each student is given access to the complete Unit 1 IWS E-learning module consisting of; recorded webinars, downloadable maps, review quizzes for self-evaluation, and an instructor Q&A forum for personal assistance. |
The Vendange Institute 8-week in-class education program delivers a comprehensive understanding of northern Italy as a wine growing region. Weekly tutored wine tastings enrich the curriculum, and bring context to the factors that influence the style and quality of wines from each region of northern Italy. Note: There is no tasting component to the final exam. |
The IWS credential will be conferred to those individuals who achieve a composite score for both units of 75% or higher. The scores from both exams are added together and averaged for final assessment. Candidates scoring 85-90% pass with ‘Honors’. Candidates scoring 91-100% pass with ‘Highest Honors’. |
